Warring in Cong list of 16 candidates

Chandigarh : Congress leadership on Friday announced 16 more candidates for the ensuing Assembly polls in the state, retaining six sitting MLAs and pitching four new faces. Four sitting MLAs who have retained by the Congress at their respective seats include Amarinder Singh Raja Warring (Gidderbaha), Amrik Singh Dhillon (Samrala), Jagmohan Singh Kang (Kharar) and Karan Kaur Brar (Muktsar).
Karan Kaur Barar and Daman Thind Bajwa are the two women in the second list, taking the total number of women candidates declared by the party so far to eight. The party has replaced the sitting MLAs from Jaitu (SC), and Banga (SC) constituencies. Though the party had finalised a list of 20 candidates two days ago, playing safe four candidates representing Shahnewal, Kotkapura, Sanaur and Dera Bassi assembly constituencies were dropped from the second list. Punjab Congress vice president Laal Singh, who is seeking ticket for his son Rajinder Singh, also missed the second list too.
Out of the six sitting MLAs retained in the second list, two have been shifted to new constituencies. Among the newcomers included in the list are Darshan Lal Mangepur, Harwinder Singh Laddi (ex-PPP) and Nirmal Singh Nimma, a two-time MLA from BSP. The two sitting MLAs, Joginder Singh Panjgrain and Tarlochan Singh failed to find place in this list.
The two young candidates-Birenderjit Singh Pahra and Daman Thind Bajwa-are Congress choice from Gurdaspur and Sunam seats respectively. Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Capt Amarinder Singh said that only credible and winnable candidates have been given the tickets, as with the first list.
Sitting MLA from Jaitu (SC), Joginder Singh Panjgrain has been dropped. His has been replaced with Mohd Sadique. Sitting MLA from Banga (SC), Tarlochan Singh has also been replaced by Satnam Singh. MLA Ajaib Singh Bhatti has also been shifted from Bucho Mandi (SC) to Mallout (SC).
Gurwinder Singh Atwal is Congress candidates from Bholath. Chaudhary Surender Singh has been pitched from Kartarpur. The names of these 16 candidates were finalised in New Delhi on Wednesday by the Congress Electoral Committee (CEC), which met under the leadership of party president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi.
