KAPURTHALA: A day after a case was registered against him following a scuffle among Congresmen in Bholath, Kapurthala Congress MLA Rana Gurjit Singh on Tuesday blamed cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia of being behind the development.

“The case was registered against me at the behest of Majithia who wants to malign my image ahead of the upcoming assembly polls,” he said.

“I don’t care about this false case registered against me. I am not afraid of Majithia. Wait for some time. Public will teach him a lesson in the elections,” he said.

The Congress MLA said the gathering in which the alleged scuffle happened was a Congress meeting organised to resolve the differences among party workers, who had opposed the candidature of Gurwinder Atwal from Bholath constituency.

“There was a scuffle between party leaders after Kulwinder Singh Babbal came there with his supporters, but it was a not a big issue as such fights often occur at meetings of various parties. Police never register cases for such scuufles,” he added.

Rana claimed that a senior Akali leader from Bholath later arranged a meeting between Babbal and Majithia, following which the latter pressured the Kapurthala SSP to register a case.

Supporters of senior Congress leader and Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjit Singh had allegedly attacked Babbal in a workers’ meeting in Nadala town on Monday. Babbal, whose turban was removed in the scuffle, had to run from the meeting with his supporters when he raised objection over the candidature of former Nurma
