New Delhi : Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday challenged AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal to come out for an open debate with him on all substantive issues relating to the state instead of indulging in cheap and undignified gimmickry out of sheer frustration in the face of imminent defeat in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Accusing him of eyeing the state’s CM’s post, Capt Amarinder asked Kejriwal to come out with the name of the party’s CM candidate, saying the people of Punjab wanted to know who they were voting for. Kejriwal, in the forlorn hope of his party winning the assembly polls, was waiting to take over the chief ministerial post, said Captain Amarinder, adding that this was the reason for his refusal to declare the chief ministerial candidate in Punjab even though he had named the Goa CM candidate for AAP.

Citing the large number of AAP posters in Delhi showcasing Manish Sisodia, Captain Amarinder said this clearly indicated that Kejriwal had no interest in carrying on as Delhi’s chief minister as he had his sights set on heading the government of Punjab.

Dismissing Kejriwal’s frivolous allegations on the Congress party’s jobs promise, Captain Amarinder said the people of Punjab were aware of his commitment to fulfill all his promises.

Chandigarh: Demanding lifting of cash withdrawal limits with immediate effect, Congress on Friday said 18 per cent per annum interest should be given to all bank account holders till post-demonetisation restrictions are in place.AICC General Secretary and in-charge of party’s Punjab affairs Asha Kumari also termed demonetisation a “surgical strike” by the Centre on poor, farmers, labourers, small businesses, middle class and the entire unorganised sector.”All restrictions on withdrawal of money be lifted with immediate effect. Till the time these restrictions are in place, a special interest at the rate of 18 per cent per annum should be given to all bank account holders,” she said .
