People of Punjab impatient to root out SAD-BJP govt: Kejriwal

Chandigarh : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said the people of Punjab are getting impatient to root out the SAD-BJP coalition in the state and want to bring in the “honest AAP” to help rid people of drug menace and corruption.
Election Commission on Wednesday announced the dates for the high-stakes assembly elections in five states, including Goa and Punjab which will go to polls on February 4.
“Goa and Punjab will go to polls on February 4. We welcome this. People had been waiting impatiently for the announcement of poll dates in the two states,” Kejriwal said.
Kejriwal and other AAP leaders have been campaigning extensively in Punjab over the last few months and the young party hopes to replicates its stunning performance in Delhi assembly elections. It also to expand its footprint beyond the national capital.
“The condition of people has worsened to such a level that they are getting impatient to root out the Akali-BJP coalition government in Punjab,” he alleged.
Drug menace and corruption are among the major issues that AAP has been raising even as it reaching out to people in the state through its intensive campaigning, both on ground and on social media.
“People of Punjab want to bring honest AAP into power which can help them get rid of the drug menace and corruption,” Kejriwal claimed.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to witness a huge influx of leaders, workers and supporters of Congress, SAD, BJP and other parties as they were waiting for the Election Commission to announce the model code of conduct, said Sanjay Singh, party national spokesperson.
He said that the Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) have joined hands to contest the elections against AAP.
About party’s preparedness for ensuing elections, Singh claimed, “With an aim to weed-out the SAD and Congress, AAP had already started its election campaign almost a year in advance in Punjab.”
Our focus will be on the eradication of corruption, drugs, unemployment, atrocities and other issues from the state, he said.
Singh was speaking to media persons after a press conference here on Wednesday.
Prominent Youth Congress leader and General Secretary (Lok Sabha, Fatehgarh Sahib) Rupinder Singh Happy, Block Samiti member Lakhwinder Singh, Block Samiti Members Swaranjit Kaur, Inderpreet Dhillon and Jaswinder Singh joined the AAP, on the occasion.
Welcoming them in party fold, Sanjay Singh said that Congress has been rejected by the people of Punjab twice in a row and Punjabis do not trust Congress anymore.
