Amritsar : Medico-turned-politician Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu has announced that her husband cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu would contest the Assembly election from Amritsar East constituency, which she represented as BJP leader in the Assembly.

Addressing a press conference along with Raj Kumar Verka, Congress candidate from Amritsar West Assembly segment, here today, she reiterated that Sidhu would soon join the Congress and would come here to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple on January 10.

She expressed ignorance about the Congress candidate who would contest from the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat. Her husband had been elected from here thrice. Even while the Congress has not officially declared the candidature of Sidhu from the Amritsar East segment, Dr Sidhu has been canvassing there regularly.

Verka, who is vice-president of the PPCC, said Sidhu would be a star campaigner and would canvass in other segments too.

Budget before poll a violation: Amarinder

PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh has said the Modi government’s move to announce the Budget before Assembly polls was a “blatant violation of all political, electoral norms”. “It is aimed at minimising the negative impact of demonetisation on the poll prospects of the BJP,” he said.

Washington : The Indian-American community in the US has urged the Trump administration to “fully support” India’s decision to revoke the constitutional provision that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir and to continue to exert pressure on Pakistan to end its support to cross-border terrorism.
