LUDHIANA: Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday launched his statewide party campaign for the assembly elections from Raikot here and stated that he will wipe out drugs and other mafias from the state. He also dismissed Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal as an outsider who “is only interested in looting Punjab for his own vested interests”.

Addressing a public rally at Dana Mandi in Raikot, Amarinder said Kejriwal is a Haryanvi with no links to Punjab and “coming here only to mislead people of the state”.

Amarinder said the AAP ticket aspirants had been asked to pay an exorbitant amount for the party ticket, who were now coming to the Congress fold. He called the AAP a party of criminals, pointing out that more than a dozen of its MLAs in Delhi had been arrested for various crimes. “They (AAP leaders) took money for tickets and many were also caught molesting women of Punjab,” he said.

Amarinder further said Kejriwal’s claims of running a clean and corruption-free party had been reduced to naught by hard facts, “including that he is running an NGO funded by Ford Foundation, which in turn is funded by CIA”.

Referring to Kejriwal’s claim of seeing huge support for his party in Patiala, Amarinder said, “Why is the AAP leader not ready to fight the polls against me if he is so confident of victory?”

“Besides giving jobs to the unemployed youth to wean them away from drugs, I will free the state of the Akali-controlled mafias” he said. LUDHIANA: The Election Commission has formulated a plan for free and fair execution of elections on February 4. A total of 2,720 polling booths have been set up across 14 assembly segments falling in Ludhiana district.

These centres are governmental educational institutes that will be dedicated to all the 14 different constituencies.

The centres include Government College for Girls, Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Malwa Girls Senior Secondary School, Government College for Boys, KVM Senior Secondary School, Ary College, Khalsa College for Girls, Punjab Agricultural University and Malwa Central College of Education.
