Congress totally committed to end menace of stray cattle: Manpreet

Bathinda : Senior Congress leader and party candidate from Bathinda Urban on Tuesday made a commitment to the people to give top priority to taking care of the stray cattle disturbing normal life and end this menace.
In a statement, he said, “It is the poll promise of the Congress listed in the party manifesto to open one gaushala and stray cattle pound in every block to be managed by the state animal husbandry department. The state government would also make necessary provisions of Rs 30 per animal per day in case of gaushalas managed by NGOs and municipalities,” he added.
He lashed out at the present Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP alliance government in the state for levying cow cess but not providing any facilities either in the urban or rural areas to check this growing problem. He referred to the increasing fatalities in the accidents caused by stray cattle on the roads, especially during the night.
He said in the rural areas, these stray cattle was damaging standing crops and farmers were not being forced to make special arrangements to save their crops. In case this problem was allowed to multiply unchecked, it might lead to serious situation and even generate tension.
Manpreet’s wife injured in accident
Bathinda: Congress candidate Manpreet Singh Badal’s wife Venu Badal met with an accident on Tuesday evening. Venu was canvassing for her husband in Model Town Phase I of the city when a Maruti Zen hit her. Later, the car driver was found in inebriated condition. Associates of Manpreet rushed his wife to a private hospital where doctor found her ankle fractured. The family was planning to shift her to Chandigarh, when the report was filed. Meanwhile, police also initiated proceedings against the guilty driver.
