Chandigarh : Punjab Congress Vice President and spokesman Sunil Jakhar on Thursday urged the Government of India not to allow SAD i-BJP government in Punjab to float bonds to legalise the loot of Rs 31 thousand crores caused by the siphoning off of food stocks from the state.

Jakhar, while referring to state government’s attempts to float the bonds and put a liability on the people of the state for next 20 years, said it was only a cover up operation.

“Not only should the centre not allow the floating of the bonds, but it must also probe the scam and fix the responsibility”, he said, adding the state government had no locus standi as it had already outlived its term and a new government is going to be formed.

He also demanded that the passports of all the suspects and their associates in this case must be seized so that they do not run out of the country like Vijay Malaya.

Referring to the scam, Jakhar said, the Food and Civil Supplies Minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon was claiming till September last that the state government had a dispute with the centre over the counter claims of Rs 27,000 crores. “What happened to those claims of the minister?” he wondered while asking, “or was it because the minister wanted to get the issue diverted to bide time”.

He said, if the central government is not able to fix the responsibility, the Congress government will ensure that the guilty are held accountable and all their assets are confiscated like that of Sahara group.
