Patiala : Patiala Police on Thursday was on tenterhooks as on one end it was involved in tackling the threat of INLD’s SYL march on it’s border with neighbouring Haryana, while on the other end, it had to deal with state people trying to cross over to avoid the confrontation over the border and to maintain peace and communal harmony as well.

On the both the ends it proved it’s worth as it foiled INLD’s plan to start digging of SYL canal first and secondly, it checked Independent MLA from Ludhiana Simranjit Bains also, who along with his supporters tried to march to Kapoori village near Ghanour in this district, but was detained by the police near the New Grain Market here on Patiala-Sirhind road and not permitted to proceed further with an intention to avoid a possible confrontation there.

When the police did not allow Simranjit Bains and his supporters to move further, they then sat there and organised a dharna in which they chanted anti-state government as well as anti-INLD slogan.

Meanwhile, another fundamentalist group All India Sikh Students Federation led by it’s president Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad also made an attempt to reach the state border to meet INLD activists and to challenge them and to stop them from digging the SYL if such an attempt was made. But the party of AISSF was detained by the police near Devigarh. Sources in the police clarified that these leaders were detained somewhere near Machingan and not allowed to move ahead.
