Bathinda : Officials of the PSPCL today snapped power supply to High Tech Educational Institute at Jai Singhwala village in the district over the outstanding bill of around Rs 4 lakh. The institute is owned by Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal’s OSD Charanjit Singh Brar. The supply was restored after the institute made a part payment of Rs 1 lakh.

Balwinder Singh, SDO, PSPCL, said they discontinued the power supply to the institute early this morning. The department had sent a bill of Rs 34 lakh, but it was later found that Rs 4 lakh was pending against the institute.

He said the institute had paid Rs 1 lakh and the remaining would be paid after a correction in the bill.

Harvinder Singh, principal of the institute, said there was confusion after they got an inflated bill of Rs 34 lakh instead of Rs 4 lakh.

Meanwhile, sources said GD College, Gurthari, had an outstanding bill of Rs 1.1 lakh, Indus Tower Ltd Rs 63,592, telephone exchange Rs 26,612, Civil Hospital, Sangat, Rs 37,669, and Indian Oil Company, Sangat, Rs 68,360.

Hardeep Singh Sidhu, Executive Engineer, PSPCL, said: “We have initiated a drive against the defaulters. But if they pay the outstanding amount at the time of disconnection of power supply, we will spare them.”
