Process for shifting garbage dumps in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Bathinda initiated

Chandigarh : Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu has taken the initiative in regarding the long pending issue of shifting garbage dumps in the cities of Amritsar, Jalandhar and Bathinda by bringing on board all the three local MLAs.

This was one of the issues that figured in the election manifesto of the Congress.

He has constituted a committee comprising ACS Revenue, ACS local Government, Principal Secretary, Rural Development and the concerned Deputy Commissioners and Municipal Commissioners of the respective areas. This committee has been mandated to search for suitable chunk of 50 acres of land around these cities which could be used garbage dumps. The Finance Minister has assured that the government will provide the requisite funds for the same.

He held detailed deliberations with the department of officials regarding the various options in this regard and said that this matter is a top priority as this issue directly affected the lives of people of these cities and he reiterated his resolve to serve the people and address their grievances expeditiously.
