Captain reiterates promise to waive farm loans in Punjab

SASNAGAR: Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh reiterated his promise of waiving off debt of the farmers on Saturday.
“We will soon find means to bail out debt-ridden farmers, with or without the help of the centre,” he said. Captain was here to inaugurate a store in Zirakpur.
The CM said his government was duty-bound to fulfil promises made to people in its election manifesto. Referring to the Congress poll promise of eliminating drug menace from the state, he said a special task force (STF), constituted by the government, was dealing with the scourge and will ensure that drugs are wiped out from Punjab.
On the issue of eradication of corruption, he said: “Necessary steps are being taken for the same with the government working hard to put things in order in the state, which had been pushed backward by the misdeeds of the Akalis and the BJP.”
He added that the state government will soon bring out a ‘White Paper’ on the state’s economy to expose the financial havoc wreaked by the Akalis. He said the government has initiated the process of curbing illegal mining and added that a number of mines will be auctioned in the coming days. Earlier, inaugurating the D-Mart store in Zirakpur, the CM said the company’s plans to set up 10 stores in the state with an investment of ₹500 crores, providing employment to about 1,000 youth. The key focus of his government, he added, will be on getting Punjab back on the track with a highly investor-friendly climate, generating employment for the youth and restoring investor confidence in the state.
