AMRITSAR: After maintaining silence for two days, the camp of BJP minister Anil Joshi on Thursday fired a salvo at local Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) unit chief Upkar Singh Sandhu, asking him “not to oppose the development agenda of Joshi”, while suggesting him to “oppose the prevailing drug menace in Punjab”.

Chandigarh : Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Sunil Jakhar has demanded from the state government to release farmers’ dues of Rs 150 crore, which have not been released since 2009. In a statement issued here on Thursday, Jakhar said then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had released a grant of Rs 800 crore in 2009 to compensate the farmers of drought-affected areas.

Patiala : Patiala MLA Preneet Kaur, while reacting to a news report published today, said, “Our grievance about the arbitrary and discriminatory method used for the registration of beneficiaries for the revised Atta-Dal scheme in the state stands vindicated.” The news report stated that 50 per cent of these beneficiaries were “bogus”. She said a large number of genuine and deserving people had not been registered under the scheme.
