State leaders ridicule wheat MSP hike

Chandigarh : Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said Rs 1,450 per quintal MSP of wheat could not even cover the input costs of the farmers. He said the MSP must be hiked to enable the farmers get a remunerative price for their produce.

Amritsar : Senior Congress leader from Tarn Taran Harminder Singh Gill today accused Cabinet Minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon of links with drug smuggler Sahib Singh. The latter was arrested from Patti in Tarn Taran yesterday. Sahib Singh, a former BSF jawan and a resident of Patti, was nabbed by the state’s special operations cell (SSOC) with 14 kg of heroin worth Rs 70 crore in the international market and Rs 9 lakh in cash.

Centre hikes wheat MSP by Rs 50 a quintal

New Delhi : The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today approved Rs 50 hike in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of wheat, taking it up to Rs 1,450 a quintal for the crop year 2015-16.
