Amritsar : Canada Winnipeg (North) Member of Parliament Kevin Lamoureux interacted with the students of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) here, on Wednesday, in the Guru Nanak Bhawan Auditorium of the university.

Vice-Chancellor Ajaib Singh Brar welcomed Kevin.

Addressing the gathering, Kevin said that just like Punjab, Winnipeg is also agriculture-based state. He said that the major source of income for Canadian government is the revenues collected from the taxes, adding that most of the money collected from these taxes is spent on the development purposes and on the welfare of the natives.

Talking about the education system, he said that the students from India mostly face problems of equivalency as in India there is a bachelors degree of three years, but in Canada, bachelors degree is of four years.

He said that the major areas of potential are trade and tourism, and any student who wishes to migrate to Canada needed to be prefect and expert in the field of his or her specialisation.

Kevin is also impressed with the state-of-the-art infrastructure and quality of education provided by the Guru Nanak Dev University.

He said that more MoUs are needed to be signed between Guru Nanak Dev University and institutes of higher education in Canada so that it could be more beneficial to both the countries.

He also announced that any PhD student who wish to visit any institute in Canada for his concerned research subject with proper formalities from the Canadian institute, would be provided free return ticket by the university.
