Chandigarh : Continuing with its first-of-its-type initiative, the Punjab NRI Police Wing on Saturday evacuated property worth Rs 70 lakh, owned by an NRI, which was under illegal possession since long.
Besides, 11 complaints pertaining to various issues of NRIs were also solved on the spot at a special NRI complaints redressal seminar held in Moga.
Buoyed over the response and great success of her earlier two similar sittings in Phillaur and Amritsar within the last 10 days, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gurpreet Deo, who heads the NRI Police Wing, gave a personal hearing to 70 NRI complainants, who were mostly tangled in matrimonial and property disputes.
IGP Deo and her team of officers, comprising AIG Bhupinder Singh, ASP Alka Meena, DSPs Deepinder Kaur, Kanwal Preet Singh, Harinder Singh along with SHOs of NRI police stations from Moga, Ludhiana (Rural and City) and Nawanshahr, gave a one-to-one hearing to all 70 parties involved in the disputes that reached the seminar. Besides finding an amicable solution to 11 complaints on the spot, six fresh complaints were also received.
Deo said that all the complaints would be disposed of within a month and instructed the police officers concerned to deal with all the complaints in a fair and transparent manner so that timely justice could be provided to the NRIs within a stipulated time period.
“All complainants were heard carefully and were assured that their cases would be dealt with on merit and timely justice would be provided,” the IGP said, while divulging that some cases were solved on the spot with the mutual consent of both the parties involved.
Property disputes were also taken up and senior officers from the Revenue Department provided special assistance in redressing such cases.
