Jalandhar : The BSP Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Avtar Singh Karimpuri on Tuesday raised the serious issue of racial attacks on Sikhs in different parts of the world during zero hour in Rajya Sabha.
Karimpuri while urging the Centre government to ensure the safety of the Sikhs settled in different parts of the country said that, a few days ago 29-year-old Sikh youth Sandeep Singh was attacked in New York city of the US. Another Sikh youth and his mother were also attacked in New York. In the same way, one Sikh was stabbed to death in Auckland, New Zealand, while similar racial attack was also carried on Sikhs in other countries too.
The MP urged the Indian government that they should hold a dialogue with the countries where Sikhs have been facing racial attacks and make sure that the necessary steps should be taken for their safety. He said that Indian embassies should also play pro-active role in these matters, so as to prevent such crime of hatred against the Sikh community abroad.
The BSP MP also said that Sikhs were settled in almost every part of the world and are making significant contribution in the economic development of the country. “If we could not ensure their safety, it would directly affect the economic progress of our country too. The NRIs should be given an assurance that the Indian government is supporting them and necessary steps should be taken in this direction,” he added.
