UK hotelier murder case: Accused sent to seven-day police remand

JALANDHAR: A local court on Sunday sent Sukhdev Singh, a co-accused in the murder case of UK-based NRI hotelier Ranjit Singh Power (55), to seven-day police remand.

Sukhdev Singh (35), accused of murdering NRI Ranjit Singh Power, in police custody in Jalandhar on Saturday.

Singh was arrested by the city police on Saturday. He was produced in the court of judicial magistrate (first class) Amarjeet Singh. The police pleaded that it has yet to trace the body of Power besides recovering briefcases belonging to him.

A team of city police has been sent to the Bhakhra canal in Anandpur Sahib to trace his body with the help of swimmers.

The police on Monday will take Sukhdev to the Bhakhra canal where he along with prime accused NRI Baldev Singh Deol allegedly threw the hotelier’s body after strangulating him.

On May 8, Deol along with Sukhdev reached the Amritsar airport in an Innova (PB08CP-0593) at 3.30pm when Power arrived there from the United Kingdom and took him to the Golden Temple for paying obeisance. They bought liquor and left Amritsar at 6pm and reached Nakkia village near Anandpur Sahib around 11pm, police investigations have revealed. During the journey, they made the hotelier drink in excess following which he became unconscious.

Then they covered his face with a polythene bag and strangulated him to death with a rope, Sukhdev told the police.

Then they threw his naked body and clothes into the Bhakra canal and returned to the Ravinder Nagar flat in the city.
