LONDON: Sikhs in England will donate blood to support the campaign of Sikh activist Surat Singh Khalsa in India to protest “the mistreatment of the community’s political prisoners.” Till November 1, Sikhs across the UK will visit blood-donation clinics.
An internet campaign has been launched and SikhBlood is a hot topic on Twitter, the Bristol Post has reported on Tuesday. Dilawer Potiwal Singh, a Sikh from Bristol county, said, “I have been moved by the images of Surat Singh Khalsa, who is on a hunger strike in India to protest against the mistreatment of Sikh political prisoners. We have a strong Sikh community in Bristol, so it's important for all to get involved.”
Surat Singh Khalsa, an 82-yearold US resident and Indian native, has been on hunger strike for 281 days in Punjab for the premature release of Sikh prisoners who have served more than the normal life sentence.
