Efforts are on to revive Sikh radicalism in UK

NEW DELHI: Sikh radicals in the United Kingdom have called a world Sikh convention to discuss the incidents of alleged desecration of Guru Granth Sahib in Punjab and revive the demand for a separate Sikh nation.
Over half a dozen incidents of alleged sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib, have come to light so far in Punjab since October 12. After the incidents, there were widespread protests in the state.
As per intelligence reports available with Union home ministry, on October 18, a gathering of around 500 people was organised in Birmingham by a federation of Sikh outfits and some gurdwaras in Midlands and Smethwick and they have called a world Sikh convention on October 31 and November 1. Bringing efforts to revive Sikh radicalism to the notice of home ministry, the report says, the convention will discuss the the alleged desecration of Guru Granth Sahib and plans to pursue agenda for a separate Sikh nation.
