LUDHIANA: Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha MP) Ravneet Singh Bittu asked the district administration officials to make people aware of the government-sponsored schemes so that they can avail the schemes’ benefits, here on Monday.

The MP said this during a meeting of the district-level vigilance and monitoring committee, that he chaired, at Bachat Bhawan in Ludhiana. He asked the officials to organise awareness camps about the different schemes run by central and state governments, which can help people in the ground-level.

He asked the officers to execute the work in a time-bound manner. The MP said that all the departments concerned, especially education, agriculture, social welfare, health, municipal corporation, water supply and sanitation, and panchayat, need to play an active role in imparting quality services to the residents.

Deputy commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said that many people were given employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme. He asked the officials to give top priority to any complaint received regarding the MGNREGA scheme and conduct inspections of the Anganwari centres at regular intervals.

The DC asked the district education officers (primary and secondary) to submit certificates of ‘No unsafe school building’ in the district.

He asked the DEOs to meet the representatives of different NGOs (non-government organisations) that provide education to the slum children and motivate them to send the kids to nearby government schools here.

On finding out that many development projects are getting delayed due to the problem over the government rates of bricks, he ordered the district development and panchayat officer (DDPO) to get a report on the prices of bricks being purchased at government rates in the other districts and to revise the rates in Ludhiana, accordingly.

The DC said that the guardians of governance (GOGs) have started working in the district and ground-level monitoring reports are pouring in on different schemes’ implementation.

Agrawal asked the BDPOs to submit utilisation certificates of works being carried out under the MP-LAD (Members of Parliament Local Area Development) scheme.

Few committee members raised the issues of two integrated watershed management programmes.

The DC asked the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM East) to conduct a probe in this regard and give a detailed report.

He hailed the health department and district programme office for the improved sex ratio in Ludhiana. The district has recorded a sex ratio of 934 females per 1,000 males.

Former minister Malkeet Singh Dakha, MLA Surinder Dabar, MLA Amrik Singh Dhillon, MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu, MLA Sanjeev Talwar, MLA Lakhbir Singh Lakha, additional deputy commissioner (development) Surabhi Malik, additional municipal corporation commissioner Dr Rishipal Singh, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) spokesperson Raman Subramaniam and other officials were present during the meeting.
