Amritsar : Former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress candidate from Amritsar, Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday demanded imposition of financial emergency in the state. He said that the situation would deteriorate further as the Reserve Bank of India had refused further overdraft to the state. He said that this means the state will not have the money even to meet day to day expenses.
Addressing a large public meeting at village Vachoa in Ajnala assembly segment here, he said, the state government has not been able to pay even the salaries of its employees for the last three months. “The state coffers are literally empty”, he said, while holding Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal responsible for the current sorry state of affairs.
He said, while the Badals were shameless as they were busy amassing personal wealth, every Punjabi was feeling ashamed of this situation. “It is unbelievable that a prosperous and progressive state like Punjab, which was at one point of time the top most state in the country in terms of economic and financial growth, is now at the threshold of financial emergency”, he said in an emotional tone, while adding, “Badals have made this unbelievable thing to happen”.
Compared to the financial bankruptcy in the state, Capt Amarinder revealed, the Badals had grown richer and richer. “How come the state is getting bankrupt and the Badals are getting richer having two hotels worth Rs 1,000 crore each while two more are under construction, private jets, thousands of acres of land spread all over the country and huge property abroad?” he asked telling people to think about it before casting their vote.
“They have grabbed the sand and gravel, liquor trade, transport business, cable distribution and lots more where they thought they could earn money”, he said, while wondering what will Badals be doing with all this money. He appealed to them to at least avoid drug trade and spare the precious lives of youth.
Among others present on the occasion included Bir Devinder Singh, Sukhjinder Randhawa, Sher Singh Gagowal, Harpartap Ajnala, Major Rajbir Singh, Harpal Singh, Amarjit Kaur Sarpanch, Dilbag Singh and others.
