PATIALA: Ahead of the Patiala Urban bypoll, Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Captain Amarinder Singh cautioned police officers and the local administration against succumbing to the ruling Akali Dal’s “muscle and money power”, at the road show on Tuesday.

Saying that people of Punjab had suffered too long under the Akalis, the former chief minister claimed, "These bypolls will set the tone for the 2017 assembly elections."

"These elections will prove to be the game-changer for Punjab. "Amarinder also promised the people that Patiala would “once again witness the best of times, like it did between 2002 and 2007” (during his regime) after the Akalis are thrown out. "The Patiala bypoll will mark the beginning of their end," asserted the Amritsar MP.

Claiming that he understood the pressure that state officials were in to favour Akali candidates at both Patiala and Talwandi Sabo, he said, "Do not worry! 2017 is not far off when the Akalis will be seen off and the Congress will be back in power."

"I know you will make us win. But, you must ensure that it is with the widest margin ever, to send a clear message that you want this corrupt government to go," said Amarinder, evoking applause from the crowd.
