BATHINDA: Beneficiaries of the atta-dal scheme of Paras Ram Nagar here, who held a protest on Wednesday, alleged that they were being supplied wheat under the scheme, which was not safe for even animals.
“The wheat and pulses being distributed under the atta-dal scheme are unfit for human consumption and people are falling sick after eating it. The wheat, besides being decayed, is mixed with stones, straw and mud,” said Vijay Kumar, former municipal councillor from Paras Ram Nagar.
The residents protested in front of a depot which distributed the spoiled wheat. Vijay said, “The protest will be continued till the government provides us quality wheat and pulses.”
“We are giving the same wheat and dal that we are getting from government,” said the depot owner. Inspectors, sent by the district food and supply controller, said that wheat will be replaced within two days.
