Ludhiana : Hundreds of people from various walks of life attended the cremation of former MLA Jagdev Singh Jassowal today.

Considered a Punjabi cultural icon, Jassowal died after a brief illness at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital here yesterday.

Apart from prominent personalities related to the fields of art, culture, education and literature, former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Iqbal Singh; Maheshinder Singh Grewal, adviser to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, attended the ceremony.

The Vice Chancellors of Guru Kashi University and Central University of Punjab, JS Dhaliwal and Dr SS Johl; Punjab Agro Industries Chairman Amrik Singh Aliwal, actor Jaswinder Bhalla, former Punjabi Sahit Akademi president Gurbhajan Singh Gill and singers Ravinder Grewal, Bal Mukand Sharma, Dev Thrikewala, Harjit Harman and Inderjit Nikku were also there.

The hearse was brought to the cremation ground amid slogans of ‘Sabhayachar da Baba Bohad Amar Rahe’.

Washington : The Indian-American community in the US has urged the Trump administration to “fully support” India’s decision to revoke the constitutional provision that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir and to continue to exert pressure on Pakistan to end its support to cross-border terrorism.
