AMRITSAR: After maintaining silence for two days, the camp of BJP minister Anil Joshi on Thursday fired a salvo at local Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) unit chief Upkar Singh Sandhu, asking him “not to oppose the development agenda of Joshi”, while suggesting him to “oppose the prevailing drug menace in Punjab”.
In a press release by BJP councillors, who are said to have backing of Joshi, said, “Joshi is committed to the development of Amritsar, and under his leadership several big projects are going on here. Several big projects were jointly inaugurated by Joshi and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. We fail to understand why Sandhu is against development.”
Continuing their tirade, the BJP councillors demanded removal of Sandhu from the Akali Dal, alleging that he was playing petty politics.
The BJP camp later also asked Sandhu to get a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed on allotment of a multi-storey parking lot near the Golden Temple.
‘WHERE ARE FUNDS MEANT FOR AMRITSAR?’
BJP leader RP Maini asked Sandhu to question Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir that “why funds of the Amritsar Improvement Trust were diverted” to other districts.
He claimed that more than `80 crore was diverted to other districts by the government.
Maini, in a statement, said Joshi was committed for the development, while the SAD was playing petty politics by accusing that roads going towards the Golden Temple were ignored.
