Chandigarh : An application was filed on Thursday in Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking review of the High Court’s earlier order wherein a Single Bench had dismissed an election petition had been filed challenging the election of Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal as Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP from Bathinda Parliamentary constituency.
Counsel for the petitioner Navjot Singh who had challenged the election of Badal on Thursday filed a review application (RA) along with two judgements of the Supreme Court on similar matters, praying for review of the High Court’s May 8 order dismissing the election petition on the ground of limitation.
“According to these judgements, the result declaration day could not be included in the time valid for challenging an election, thus the petitioner had filed the petition within the valid time,” said SS Swatch, counsel for the petitioner.
The Bench of Justice Mahesh Grover has adjourned the matter till July 15.
The petition was filed by Navjot Singh challenging election of Harsimrat Kaur Badal as MP from Bathinda Parliamentary constituency alleging her for adopting corrupt practices in the election.
The petitioner in this case had alleged that Harsimrat Kaur Badal had spent more than the prescribed amount on her election campaign.
