SANGRUR: Senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal on Thursday termed deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal’s statement about the blueprint for the `6,000-crore facelift of the state’s rural areas “daydreaming”, saying the present government was allegedly borrowing money even to run its day-to-day affairs.
In a press release, the former chief minister said the SAD-BJP government had, since coming to power in 2007, failed to implement any development projects in the state, particularly in villages. Most of the villages, she alleged, lacked basic amenities and did not even have clean drinking water or teachers in schools.
Kaur said the government had allegedly failed to carry out development despite getting sufficient funds from the Centre as, according to her, funds were “diverted to other schemes” in a display of poor financial management.
“The financial condition of the state is in the lowest abyss … the state has been continuously facing a fiscal crisis due to which it is resorting to borrowing funds for running even day-to-day needs,” Kaur said.
