Ludhiana : Member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu, along with office-bearers of the District Congress Committee Ludhiana (Urban) and around 500 Congressmen will meet Surat Singh Khalsa and appeal to him to end his fast in the interest of lasting peace in Punjab.

This initiative is considered to be imperative because certain anti-social elements have started mobilisations around him leading to the widespread feeling that the hunger strike has been hijacked, he said.

Ravneet Singh Bittu said the prosperity of any community is possible only in a peaceful atmosphere.

While expressing his concerns, Bittu said that certain forces inimical to the prevailing hard earned peace in the state are eagerly waiting across the border for the law and order situation to deteriorate and are conspiring to push Punjab back to the dark days of terrorism.

Similarly, anti-national and divisive forces within the state are working overtime to utilise this opportunity to strike back. They are trying to mislead the youth, he said.

Bittu also said on Thursday that Punjab is facing many problems such as youths taking drugs in large numbers, fast depleting underground water, contamination of drinking water, etc. “It’s time we find

solutions to these problems which are going to affect our future generations for all the time to come. Punjabis had made huge sacrifices to bring back peace to the state. They don’t want the repeat of what all happened in the 80’s and the 90’s,” he said.

Bittu added, all the MLAs of Ludhiana City, President of District Congress Committee (Urban), the office-bearers, Councilors, ex-councilors and party workers would accompany him that day and apprise him of the feelings of the people of Punjab.

As reported previously in Daily Post, left unsaid by Khalsa’s camp and his supporters is the wholly valid issue of whether or not the release of these Sikh prisoners would constitute a viable threat to the legitimate national security interests of India.
