CCHANDIGARH: Rejecting all allegations levelled by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy chief minister son Sukhbir Singh Badal against the Congress at the Bathinda rally, party deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday said the fatherson duo were suffering from Congress phobia.
“Better change your ‘mool mantra’ (of an anti-Congress stand) as people are no longer prepared to buy it,” Amarinder said in a press statement.
Referring to Sukhbir’s challenge to hold a rally at the same venue and match the SAD’s show of strength, Amarinder said: “You know it better that holding a rally is no big deal for me and for that I really don’t need to import people from Haryana and force state officials, including police personnel, to attend it. But let us take a spontaneous and direct popularity test among the masses and see who gets flowers and who gets thrashing of his life, if not stoned and lynched”.
He said: “Moreover, your popularity is on full display at police stations and detention centres across the state where you have detained thousands of innocent people fearing that they might spoil your show by protesting against your excesses.”
Taking a dig at Sukhbir’s claims of 25-year rule, he said, “Not only will the people of Punjab throw out the Akali-BJP government in 2017, but they will also ensure that the modern day ‘mahants’ and ‘massands’ controlled by Parkash Singh Badal are thrown out of the SGPC.”
Referring to Badal’s speech, Amarinder said it was a classic combo of ageing and dementia together where the person forgets his present and only recalls his past. “Instead of talking about the incidents of sacrilege, Badal was busy talking about the 1984 riots.”
SAD TRYING TO FLARE UP TEMPERS: BAJWA
Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa on Monday described SAD’s ‘Sadhbhawna’ rally a cunning move to “flare up” emotions of the people for “political gains”.
Rubbishing SAD’s allegations, Bajwa said Badal himself had been supporting every move of the radicals.
