New Delhi : Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will tomorrow hold a decisive meeting with former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, who is set to head the state unit amid indications of an imminent reshuffle.

Sources in the Congress said the meeting between the two leaders could well be “the last and the most crucial in a series of meetings” held in the recent past to discuss the contentious issue of Punjab Congress reorganisation which has exercised the party’s mind for a long time now. Rahul has met state MLAs, district chiefs and even municipal committee chiefs in what the party today described as the “most comprehensive discussion possible on the matter”.

Talks will be centred on the shape the party needs to take in the future, both organisationally and electorally to counter the challenge of incumbent Akali Dal-BJP combine and that of a rising Aam Aadmi Party.

Sources said while Capt Amarinder Singh was expected to be given the role of the state unit president whenever the reshuffle takes place, former union minister Ambika Soni could most likely be asked to chair the state campaign committee. Sunil Jakhar is also likely to remain the Congress Legislature Party Leader.

The other posts under discussion are Campaign Committee chairman and convener with the state unit president likely to have two vice-presidents in his team. How many posts will immediately be announced is not clear.

“It is not clear what shape the final committee will take although there is a feeling that Jats, Hindus, Dalits and OBCs should all be represented well in the leadership,” a source said, adding that “whatever will be announced will be good for the party”.
