The raid continued for more than 12 hours during which various people close to the accused, including his family members were quizzed

Chandigarh : Two days after the arrest of SAD councillor of Malout and ‘kingpin’ of the recruitment scam, Sham Lal ‘Daddi’, the Vigilance Bureau raided various places, including the councillor’s house and shop in Malout, on Wednesday.

According to sources, the VB teams from Mohali and Bathinda and the local police conducted the raids, which continued for more than 12 hours, questioning various people close to the accused, including his family members. Confirming the development, Rajinder Garg, brother of Sham Lal, said that the VB raided his house and questioned his parents, children and other family members. “They just questioned us and nothing else happened. They also raided our shop and my house as I live in a separate house,” he added, talking to Daily Post on phone. However, denying any other action of the VB during the raid, Rajinder said that the officials were lenient with them and they only questioned them.

These raids were conducted after the Akali councillor confessed that he helped at least nine people get employed as SDOs with the Punjab Urban Planning and Development authority (PUDA). ‘Daddi’ was arrested from Bathinda on Monday and was in police remand till July 1.

He also claimed that several candidates approached him for assistance in getting jobs while recruitment for SDOs was going on and he helped them in getting jobs. These recruitments were conducted in November, last year.

The Akali leader has reportedly said that his accomplice Amir Sagar (employee at the Water Supply and Sanitation Department), arrested by the VB earlier, was in touch with a Bathinda-based man, who in turn, was in touch with the main conduit for a Lucknow-based key accused in the case.

The bureau has sought production warrants for Amit, who is lodged in the Nabha jail. According to well placed sources, they were very close to ascertain how the question papers set by the Institute of Management Sciences, Panjab University, got leaked.

Nine persons whom the Akali leader have admitted to have helped in getting jobs are Gaurav Sharma of Sangrur, Sunit Jindal of Dabwali (Daddi’s cousin), Khushwant of Abohar, Gaurav Bansal and Gursewak of Bathinda, Dilpreet and Happy Gupta of Malout, Sandeep of Mansa and Ajay Sharma.

Scandal will lead to Badal only, claims Amarinder

Chandigarh: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday reiterated that an independent probe into the recruitment scandal will eventually lead to the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

He demanded immediate arrest of the main suspect, Dayal Singh Kolianwali, a close aide of the Chief Minsiter, lest he is made to run away by the Badals to destroy the evidence. Citing the detained Akali councillor Sham Lal Daddi’’s confession to the Vigilance Bureau, Capt Amarinder in a statement issued here on Wednesday said, it is clear that Daddi was acting in league with Kolianwali, who in turn is the frontman of Badal and has been acting at his behest.

The PCC president pointed out, “This is a confession made by an Akali councillor to the Vigilance Bureau which is under the direct control of the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal, hence it has to be taken seriously and Kolianwali must be arrested immediately”. They cannot simply dismiss it as a Congress propaganda, he added. DP

Arrest Kolianwali, demands AAP

Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded the immediate arrest of senior Akali leader and Chairman, Punjab Agro Industries Corporation, Dayal Singh Kolianwali, after the state Vigilance Bureau nabbed his close aide and Akali councillor Sham Lal ‘Daddi’ in a multi-crore job scam.

Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann said mere arrest of ‘Daddi’ would mean nothing if the kingpin of the job scam Kolianwali was roaming free.
