Jalandhar: Senior Congress leader Sunil Jakhar has held SAD responsible for the suicides of Punjab farmers. In a press conference at the Jalandhar Press Club, former CLP leader blamed SAD of ignoring the farmers completely on various issues contrary to their promises made in Election Manifesto in 2012. On the lines of Amarinder Singh, Jakhar also held the Chief Minister responsible for weakening the case of Punjab in SC and his failure to safeguard the interest of the agriculture sector of Punjab.

“It’s the blue fly (SAD) which is responsible for the suicides in Punjab and not the white fly. They ignored the interests of Punjab farmers completely. Spurious pesticides were stocked in the shops forcibly and this resulted in the destruction of the crops,” he told mediapersons.

“A case was registered on Oct 7, 2015, for corrupt practices by the state crime cell of Punjab Police on the recommendation of PS Suresh Kumar. Nine months have passed but the police haven’t booked anybody in this case nor the challan has been filed. It means that Punjab government was trying to save some highly placed people. They should either say that Kumar had malafide intentions against someone or should have booked someone in this case. The inquiry could have led straight to Tota Singh,”Jakhar said categorically.

Jakhar in answer to a question said that he and the other Congress MLAs were backing Capt’s statement regarding resignation in case the SC gave verdict on the SYL issue against Punjab.
