Punjab's former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh was today permitted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court to go abroad. Acting on his petition, Justice MMS Bedi directed Capt Amarinder Singh to furnish a bail bond of Rs 3 lakh before a Mohali court as surety.

The Punjab Congress today opposed the government's proposal to impose tax on professionals like doctors, engineers, architects and lawyers in the state. The party said the government appeared to be desperate to generate additional revenue that it had now decided to levy such taxes.
