Bajwa supports Dalits’ stir in Sangrur villages

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa, on Monday extended support to the agitation by Dalits of Balad Kalan and other villages in Sangrur district and demanded immediate withdrawal of cases registered against 41 members from the community and justice in the auction of village shamlat land reserved for the Scheduled Castes.

CHANDIGARH: With Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal promising to clear pending payment of sugarcane farmers and social welfare schemes within a week, Congress Legislature Par ty (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar on Monday claimed a moral victory for the Punjab Congress. Jakhar, along with state Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa and 32 party MLAs, had staged a protest demonstration outside Badal’s residence here on June 23 to press for these demands.
