Amritsar : In the murder of jail inmate, Bikramjeet Singh of Algon Kothi, Congress has demanded CBI probe in the matter. The deceased died during the police interrogation on the night of May 5. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing an Akali leader Gurdial Singh, a resident of Algon Kothi in the year 2002.

Ludhiana : Congress candidate Ravneet Singh Bittu has won from the Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of 19,709 votes. He polled 3,00,459 votes. The thin victory margin is not surprising as the Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency, comprising nine Assembly constituencies, saw a four-cornered contest.
