CHANDIGARH: In order to uplift the social status of the scheduled castes, down trodden and underprivileged sections of the society, the Punjab government has launched various welfare schemes in the state and has allocated a dedicated fund of Rs 2,113.09 crore for the welfare of scheduled castes, backward classes and for the welfare of economic weaker sections of the society besides issuing strict directions for speedy and proper implementation of SC Sub Plan and welfare schemes in the state.

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa today said his party would now, after having registering a “victory” by stalling the implementation of property tax, go after illegal mining in the state. The Punjab Government had recently formed a committee to review the manner in which the property tax was to the imposed.
