Chandigarh : It has happened a second time in the last eight months. Punjab Congress President Capt Amarinder Singh and DGP Sumedh Singh Saini again crossed swords on Tuesday over the much-hyped, and perhaps the most politicised kidnapping-turned-elopement of Shruti, a minor girl, with her lover-turned-kidnapper Nishan Singh Brar of Faridkot.

Faridkot : It was after 27 days of her abduction that the Punjab Police today claimed to have recovered Faridkot girl Shruti Sachdeva in Goa. Incidentally, the recovery coincided with a major protest by the Congress leadership in the town.

Muktsar : The fund-starved Punjab Government, which has been finding it difficult to pay salaries to its employees, is all set to construct a heliport at Mann village, adjoining Badal village, in the district. The heliport, to come up over 20-25 acres, will facilitate easy landing and flying of helicopters of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal.

Chandigarh : The main opposition Congress on Wednesday “exposed” another “scam” in the utilisation of central funds in Punjab. After the embezzlement reported in the Border Area Development Programme (BADP), the party has alleged “mis-utilisation” in the Indira Aawas Yojana (IAY), which is meant for providing houses for houseless people.
