Punjab info commission working ‘unofficially’

Chandigarh : While information commissions of various states have stopped working following an order of the Supreme Court, the Punjab State Information Commission (PSIC) is hearing cases and making suggestions, but not passing any orders. In short, it is working only "unofficially". The SC has recently pointed out that since information commissions were quasi-judicial bodies, these could not function without judges or legal experts on the panel.

Fatehgarh Sahib : Former Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly Bir Devinder Singh today lodged a complaint with the local police station against Revenue Minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia, Prem Singh Chandumajra and other senior leaders for violating the sanctity of Diwan Todar Mal Yaadgari hall on September 25.
CM approves new service rules

Chandigarh : Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today approved the new service rules to give post-retirement extension in service to government employees for up to two years. A notification in this regard will be issued later this week. Official sources said the new rules would become applicable from this month, which means employees retiring at the end of the current month could opt for an extension in service.

Chandigarh : People’s Party of Punjab president Manpreet Singh Badal said today he was not sure whether he would contest the Lok Sabha elections from Bathinda against his sister-in-law Harsimrat Kaur Badal. He, however, said his party would field one of its best candidates from the constituency.
3 panchayat secys suspended for Rs 50-lakh bungling

Mohali : The Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat Department (PRDPD) today suspended three panchayat secretaries involved in the embezzlement of government funds to the tune of Rs 50 lakh. The officials put under suspension were Harbans Singh, Jagwinder Singh and Vijay Kumar.
