‘Honest people from other parties welcome in Cong’

Ludhiana : Punjab unit Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday said that honest and good people from all political parties are always welcome to join the Congress. He did not rule out the possibility of more leaders from other political parties joining the Congress but refused to divulge any names. Captain Amarinder also said that winability will be the sole criterion for choosing the candidates in forthcoming assembly elections. “Every constituency and every candidate will be thoroughly assessed before the final decision is taken,” he said. On the issue of alliance, Capt Amarinder said that he had favoured the alliance among the like-minded secular parties.

Chandigarh: Former Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa on Monday criticised Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for “ignoring” the family of a soldier, Capt Ashwani Kumar, who lost his life when an avalanche struck a patrol party in Siachen in Ladakh sector last November. “The men deployed on Siachen, which is the highest battlefield in the world, in every sense of the term perform the toughest job as sentinels to maintain round the clock security in this strategic region,” he said.

Barnala : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann on Monday said that former MP Jagmeet Singh Brar and former MLA Vijay Sathi were not joining his party. “These are rumours being spread by some vested interests,” he said here during his visit. It is worth mentioning that Mann himself is trying to be projected as the AAP’s chief ministerial candidate in Punjab Assembly poll scheduled in 2017. He also said that his party, if voted to power, would initiate legal action against those involved in the poster controversy.
