CHANDIGARH: The Congress has accused the Punjab chief minister of pressing the police not to register a case against a former district education officer (DEO), who was held responsible for irregularities in the payment of ` 4.89 crore for school uniforms in Gurdaspur district in 2012.

Chandigarh : Chief Parliamentary Secretary and Amritsar (East) legislator Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu today created a flutter, declaring that political alliances always posed problems and the BJP should walk out of its alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) as the latter did not show due respect to BJP leaders and workers. She said the BJP and the RSS were right in strengthening their base in Punjab.

Chandigarh : Former Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira has accused Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of obstructing criminal proceedings in a Rs 4.89-crore corruption case to save a former Education Minister of the state.In a complaint to Governor Shivraj Patil, he has alleged that Badal has been "misusing" his official authority to create hurdles in the criminal proceedings in the case.
