Chandigarh : Stating that Congress is currently at position three with AAP ranking at the top in Punjab, firebrand leader Jagmeet Singh Brar, a former Congress MP, on Tuesday sent shock waves to his party leadership. Brar, who has been eagerly waiting for the party high command to assign him some responsibility in Punjab since he returned to the Congress fold after quitting it in January last year, went on saying that “Congress needs to work on ground level as the connect with grass-root workers is missing today.”

Chandigarh : Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president and former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday ridiculed and dismissed the allegations levelled by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) against his son Raninder Singh about having seven companies in foreign countries. “It is amusing that the Akali-BJP and the AAP have found a common cause and a common enemy in me,” he observed. “It seems that Finance Minister Arun Jaitely proposes and AAP disposes,” he added.

CHANDIGARH: The opposition Congress on Tuesday grilled the SAD-BJP government for the “non-payment of the mandatory unemployment allowance”, as employment generation minister Ajit Singh Kohar acknowledged in the Vidhan Sabha that such an allowance could be disbursed to only 619 employees in the past two years.

Chandigarh : The Punjab government’s Excise Policy was discussed threadbare in the Vidhan Sabha here today, with the Opposition Congress accusing the government of monopolising the liquor trade by allowing for a new category of select liquor contractors — L1 A — who will be allotted liquor for onward sale to L1 contractors, wholesalers and retailers.
