Chandigarh : Rejecting former CM Parkash Singh Badal’s allegation that Punjab was inching towards anarchy, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today claimed that the law and order situation in the state was better than it had ever been in the past 10 years, with figures showing a marked decline in all major incidents of crime since the Congress government took over in March.

Fazilka/Chandigarh : A local court has issued non-bailable warrants against five persons, including Leader of the Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira, in a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The others are Khaira’s personal security officer (PSO) Joga Singh; personal assistant Manish; UK-based Charanjit Kaur, a resident of Bath village (Jalandhar); and Major Singh Bajwa of Bajwa Kalan village (Jalandhar). All have been summoned to be present in the court on November 30 and stand trial under Sections 29, 30, 27-A and 23 of the Act.

KAPURTHALA:Three weeks after he was lodged in the Kapurthala Modern Jail on October 13, Punjab’s former Akali minister Sucha Singh Langah, 61, has had no political leader or friend visit him. Langah, who served as the agriculture minister in the Akali Dal government from 2007 to 2012, was sent to judicial custody for 14 days on the charges of rape, extortion and cheating, following a complaint filed by a woman constable on September 28.

CHANDIGARH:Punjab local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu is working on a set of ambitious plans to generate at least Rs 1,000 crore in the next year or so. Proposals to generate money from outdoor advertising, parking lots, regularisation of properties and reworking fee on mobile towers are in various stages of completion.
