CHANDIGARH: The Punjab cabinet on Thursday decided to waive off loans up to Rs 50,000 each taken from the Punjab Scheduled Castes Land Development and Finance Corporation (PSCLDFC) and Punjab Backward Classes Land Development and Finance Corporation (PBCLDFC).

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government took loans of Rs 41,364 crore in the fiscal year 2016-17, which was seven times the loans (Rs 5,968 crore) taken in the year before that (2015-16), primarily due to a Rs 29,920-crore loan from the Centre for settling a gap in the cash credit limit (CCL) granted for grain procurement over the years and the stock value. The Congress had at the time, being in opposition, termed this settling of legacy accounts a scam by the SAD-BJP regime.

CHANDIGARH:A day after the Punjab chief minister announced waiver of the state’s half in goods and services tax (GST) levied on food items used for community kitchen (langar) at the Golden Temple and other shrines, the ruling Congress and main opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) indulged in a war of words to claim credit for it in the Vidhan Sabha on Thursday, the third day of the budget session.

Chandigarh – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today accused leader of opposition and AAP MLA Sukhpal Khaira of “surrendering” before Congress to “save himself in a cross-border drug trafficking case”. SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia also charged him with becoming the “B” team of the Congress party.
