Chandigarh Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday led the SAD-BJP protest from the front as a sea of farm workers, Dalits, women and youth joined him and party workers to stage a gherao of the Vidhan Sabha in protest against the Congress government’s failure to implement the Rs 90,000 crore loan waiver promise. Sukhbir also condemned the use of lathicharge against innocent agitators who were registering their protest in a most peaceful and democratic manner. “The police resorted to lathicharge without any provocation,” he added.

Chandigarh – A court here today held Jagtar Singh Tara guilty in a case pertaining to the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh. The court of additional district and session judge J S Sidhu will pronounce the quantum of sentence tomorrow, Tara’s counsel Simranjit Singh said. Tara (43) had earlier confessed to his involvement in the assassination of Beant Singh in 1995.
