Moga : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Dhudike village in the district on August 28 to preside over the celebrations of 150th birth anniversary of Punjab Kesari Lala Lajpat Rai, who was born and brought up at his maternal grandparents’ house in the village. No senior officer of the state or the district administration has confirmed the visit, but said Modi might visit the village.

Patiala : Local MP Dr Dharamvira Gandhi protested near the Mahatma Gandhi’s statue inside the Parliament today after he wasn’t allowed to speak on the eviction of farmers from shamlat land in Haraiu Khurd village in the district. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan didn’t let him speak on the issue twice.

HOSHIARPUR: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa on Sunday demanded immediate resignation of state BJP chief Kamal Sharma in the wake of the registration of a case against two of the latter’s personal staff members for their alleged links with drug traffickers, besides a CBI inquiry. The PPCC chief, along with AICC general secretary Shakeel Ahmad, was here to pay tributes to former parliamentarian Chowdhary Sunder Singh on his 19th death anniversary. A function was organised by Singh’s daughter-in-law and former Union minister Santosh Chowdhary.
