Probe into illegal voting too little, too late, says Capt

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today said the inquiry ordered into illegal voting in the SGPC elections was too little and too late, as even non-Sikhs were allowed to vote in Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s village.

Rejecting the offer of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to return 91 acres of land to the protesting Gobindpura farmers while denying compensation to others, PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh today said the state government should follow the policy adopted by the Centre and compensate all the farmers according to the prevailing market rate, guaranteeing their long-term rehabilitation.

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh has condemned the “brutal use of force and the reign of terror” let loose by the ruling Akali Dal against its opponents during the SGPC elections across the state, claiming that by resorting to such desperate tactics the ruling party had virtually conceded defeat. Blaming Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal for the violence, he asked them to tender an unconditional apology to the Sikh community for blemishing the image of the scared institution of the SGPC.
